Early Wednesday 3/19/03 (1:00 a.m.):

Ten illegals were spotted on PRIVATE PROPERTY out of South, TX . Jack Foote (Nat'l Spokesman for R.R.), a French Reporter, Hank Conner, Casey Nethercott (with tracking dog) detained two of the ten criminal crossers. They contacted Border Patrol. When border patrol didn't come they called again. After 45 minutes Landowner became uncomfortable and asked R.R. members to release detainees. They put the two (male and female) into a van and drove them to the property gate and released them. During the ride to the property boundary they had provided water, food, and a blanket for the woman.

Wednesday A.M. 3/19:

Hank Conner and Casey Netercott went into town to get some burgers from Dairy Queen. They were then arrested for Aggravated Assault and illegal detention of these two illegal aliens, by Texas Ranger Doyle Holdridge, and Jim Hogg County Sheriff Erasmo Alarcon. We did not know where they were being held for the first 24 hours. They were taken to jail in Brooks County, Falfurrias, TX. and were held there until Friday 3/28. They were not taken to Jim Hogg County jail, the county they were arrested in, because the jail was full.

They weren't told what their charges were for the first 24 hours and both men now have two counts of each charge. They were not given medications (Casey: Insulin for pancreatic disorder) and (High Blood Pressure medication for Hank Conner) for 48 hours. We understand Casey was bleeding from the mouth and had to taken for medical treatment within the first couple of days. He has since stabilized, but told me last night that his insulin is not balanced and he's experiencing highs and lows.

They went to court (arraignment, I believe) and bail was set at 200,000 for Casey and 80,000 for Hank. Hank's sister from Louisiana, which is where Hank is from, contacted an attorney who negotiated Hank's release. $8k was paid for bail and $5k for the attorney's retainer fees. $13k total. Friday, 3/28-8:00, Hank Conner was bailed out of jail.

Casey has not had any conferences with a supposed County Assigned Attorney named Jose Luis Ramos. Ramos claims that Casey declined his services. Casey denies that he declined is services. You can't get the man on the phone, or to return calls either. Casey is in solitary confinement with nothing to read, no one to talk with, no T.V.

That's it up to now. Trying to find a Texas Attorney to set up a bail hearing. Writ of Habeas Corpus has been filed, but declined by Judge Alexandro Gabert. We believe that is to bump up responsibility for the Writ to another County Appeals Court.
